Thursday Night Preview: Quoth the Raven "Uno Mas?"

The 2013-14 NFL season kicks off tomorrow with a rematch of an epic playoff game from last year. The eventual Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens needed a late Hail Mary to to upset the Denver Broncos at Mile High in the Divisional Round, and Peyton Manning once again tasted the bitterness of defeat in cold weather.

The months since have brought changes to both rosters. The Ravens lost defensive legends Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, but Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, and Torrey Smith are all back to lead what turned out to be an explosive offense at the end of last year. In Denver, meanwhile, the defense will look to replace Von Miller (out on suspension) while the offense will have to learn to deal with former Bronco Elvis Dumerville (now a Raven).

The line opened with Denver as 9 point favorites and has fluctuated up and down, eventually moving towards the Ravens and settling with them as 8 point underdogs.

Here are a plethora of trends to consider when betting on Thursday Night's game:
Baltimore Ravens Trends:
When playing in September are 7-3
When playing on grass are 6-4
After being outgained are 7-3
When playing outside the division are 7-3
Denver Broncos Trends:
When playing in September are 4-6
When playing on grass are 9-1
After being outgained are 8-2
When playing outside the division are 6-4
A few Ravens at Broncos trends to consider:
Baltimore is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games
Baltimore is 6-2 SU in its last 8 games on the road
Baltimore is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games when playing Denver
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Baltimore's last 6 games
Denver is 11-1 SU in its last 12 games
Denver is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games at home
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Denver's last 5 games at home
Denver is 9-3 SU in its last 12 games when playing at home against Baltimore
Ridiculous, right? What the hell are you supposed to do with all of that? Toss it out. It's only as meaningful as the number of players remaining on the current rosters who played in all of those games. As we know, the emergence of free agency has made these stats almost as useless as CBSSports writers expert opinions on ATS picks.
