NBA Playoff Picks - 4/20/14

Sorry, no time to boast or brag or celebrate or do a happy dance because...well, we pretty much broke even on all accounts yesterday. Not only did our ATS picks split, but our rankings gave Indiana way too much credit and Golden State not nearly enough. Here's what it looks like after Day 1.

Picks: 2-2 ATS

Ranking System: 5/10

Although our day began smelling like roses, the back nine in Indy and OKC killed what looked like a Bubba Watson-like Masters. Like I've said before, gambling is sometimes merely a fancy word for expensive guessing. In the interest of time, let's get down to some serious dart throwing at today's action.

Dallas Mavericks (+9) over SAN ANTONIO SPURS: We believe this line is begging us to take the Spurs, and we should, but we're not. Three days off will be enough for this veteran group of Dallas Mavericks to squeak out an 8 point loss. Better than the points in this one is the UNDER, but our official pick is the Mavericks.

"Back door cover, here I come..."

MIAMI HEAT (-9.5) over Charlotte Bobcats: Sure Al Jefferson will give the Heat problems inside, but Miami swept the regular season and went 3-1 ATS when they were inconsistent and the games mattered less. Miami crowd will be fired up and LBJ and Co. will prevail by a ton.

"Welcome to April Madness, Kemba."

CHICAGO BULLS (-4.5) over Washington Wizards: The Bulls are a team that steps it up in the playoffs. We don't see Washington winning any games on the road in this series, and although they might cover the next one - they'll need a game to adjust to playoff intensity.

HOUSTON ROCKETS (-5) over Portland Trailblazers: We believe this series goes seven games with the home team winning every time. Does that mean they'll always cover - no, but we don't think Kevin McHale allows a letdown Game 1 because he knows how costly those can be.

I know, not the best analysis, but there you go. Take it for what it's worth. We'll have more time for tomorrow's line-up.

Best of luck, everyone.

Vinny and Marco
