NBA Playoffs Round 2 Record: 5-4-1 ATS
Top Confidence Picks: 9-9-1 ATS
2014 Overall NBA Playoff Record: 29-30-1 ATS
The epic water tread continues at The Spread Zone, but as you know we're always just one winning streak away from mediocrity. And if we don't reach that pinnacle with the NBA playoffs, well then there's always the dog days of summer baseball. Talk about throwing darts at a board.
Tonight we have another pair of Game 3's on the schedule, only this time both of the top seeds - Miami and San Antonio - hitting the road with commanding 2-0 series leads and very little evidence that things will change for the Brooklyn Nets or the Portland Trailblazers. With both the Heat and the Spurs vamping up for a rematch in the NBA Finals it appears they have both found their stride at the right time. Let's see if there's a dog worth backing.
BROOKLYN NETS (+1.5) over Miami Heat: It just seems as though Miami has found that mythical post-season gear and they use it at will in the second half of games. I believe a great bet for this game will be the first half UNDER, but as far as a second half total, we're only taking the points because we believe Deron Williams is finally going to exploit the point guard match-up and give the Nets the offense they've so desperately needed. The hearts of champions die hard, and so it goes for KG and Pierce. Make no mistake, they will die in 5 games, but this one will be theirs.
"Please, please let Vinny and Marco be right."
PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS (+1.5) over San Antonio Spurs: The numbers don't look great for Portland. It's a known fact that teams who go up 2-0 in the best of seven series end up winning the series almost 1000% of the time. That doesn't, however, mean that Portland won't make this a little bit of a series by defending home court - at least for one game. And if they're going to do that, it's going to be this game because let's face it teams who go up 3-0 in the BO7 win the series 10,000% of the time - and don't even get me started about teams who go up 4-0. The Spurs are 13-4 ATS in their last 17 following an ATS win and 4-0 ATS in their last four conference semi-final games. Rip City, on the other hand, is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 home games and 0-6 ATS in their last 6 overall. And yet, here they are. The stat that has us backing Portland: the Spurs abysmal 3-10 ATS record in their last 13 visits to Portland.
Top Confidence Pick: Considering I called a late audible on Game 1 - don't tell Marco, okay - we'll take the Blazers and the points at home.
Fun Parlay: First half only Nets/Under/Blazers/Over (one of these days it's bound to hit)
May the Spreads Be With You,
Vinny and Marco
