Nets vs Heat Pick ATS - 5/8/14 - NBA Playoff Pick-a-thon Continues

Last night we finally managed to not split the games, but unfortunately Bradley Beal's late 3 pointer in Indiana took away the sweep and gave us a four point push on Game 1. Fortunately, yours truly only took the UNDER because the line had moved to -5 by tip-off. Nonetheless, although lightening did not strike again for the Clippers, the Thunder did roll and Marco and I earned our first solid evening of the second round.

Sadly, I did not get to watch a single minute of basketball tonight because for whatever reason Comcast and TNT were not working well together, giving me a black screen to stare at for six hours with the occasional flickering of a commercial followed by more blackness. I'd love to make fun of somebody or write some interesting fiction, but on Gamecast the players all look the same.

NBA Playoffs Round 2 Record: 3-2-1 ATS

Top Confidence Picks: 8-8-1 ATS

2014 Overall NBA Playoff Record: 27-28-1 ATS

Brooklyn Nets (+8) over MIAMI HEAT: On Monday night the Miami Heat proved once again that what happens in the regular season stays in the regular season. Early on, however, the Brooklyn Nets kept things close but unfortunately fell victim to wary legs and the third quarter defensive intensity of the Miami Heat. Enter Game 2, and we believe Brooklyn will do just enough to stay close late and cover this near double-digit line. The stats haven't changed since Monday with the Nets/underdog going 4-1 ATS in the last five and the home team covering 7 of 10, but the stat of the night to us is Brooklyn's 8-1 ATS record in their last 9 games after losing by 10+. They are also 10-2 ATS after their last 12 double-digit road losses, and 13-3 ATS after losing by 15+. This is a proud team that responded well enough to adversity early in the year to not only climb back into the playoff picture, but to make it to the second round. Take the points and don't be surprised if the Nets managed to take this thing down to the wire.

SAN ANTONIO SPURS (-7) over Portland Trailblazers: The Portland Trailblazers showed their youth and inexperience in Game 1 at the Alamo, while the Spurs conversely demonstrated their skill, depth, and new found life after finally shaking the pesky Dallas Mavericks. San Antonio has now won its last two games by a combined 47 points and looks primed for another NBA Finals run. Will the Blazers play better? Sure. It would be hard for them not to. By the end of the second half, LaMarcus Aldridge looked to have found his second round bearings and was scoring at will. Unfortunately, the numbers don't support backing this road dog tonight. Portland is just 1-4 ATS  in their last 5 after a loss, 0-4 ATS after allowing 100+, and although the underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 in this series, the road team is just 9-19 ATS in the last 28 meetings. Most compelling to us, however, is San Antonio's 22-5 ATS record over the past three seasons after scoring 105+ points in three straight games. When they start rolling, they're tough to beat. We're going to back the Spurs again because it feels a little uncomfortable.

Top Confidence Pick: We'll take the home team to go up 2-0 and cover in SAN ANTONIO.

What we like even more than our ATS picks tonight is fading the public by taking the UNDER 192 in Miami (68% of the public is on the OVER) and the UNDER 207.5 in San Antonio (91% of the public is on the OVER). But remember, this is unofficial b/c our O/U picks in the 2014 NBA playoffs are 0-4.

Fun Parlay of the Night: Brooklyn (+8)/Under 192.5/San Antonio (-7)/Under 207.5
