NBA Playoff Picks ATS Day 12: Sometimes It's Better to Be Lucky Than Good

                         Jason Collins, Chris Broussard
After catching hell yesterday for basically saying Jason Collins was inevitably headed there as a sinful homosexual, Chris Broussard took to Twitter (contemporary confessional for good Christians) to clarify that he was only offering his "personal opinion as it relates to Christianity" and respects people's choice to believe otherwise. What I think he means is their choice to believe otherwise about Christian values not god-hating sodomites. And by respect I'm pretty sure he means condemns for being Satan's disciples."
Most importantly, Broussard stated from his handle #PleaseDon'tFireMyAss, "As has been the case in the past, my beliefs have not and will not impact my ability to report on the NBA." He then posted some very questionable analysis about the current state of NBA anlaysis.

That being said, I want to know how a black man educated at Oberlin College - known historically as one of the first American institutions of higher learning earning to accept blacks and females - ended up so closed-minded, intolerant, and afraid?

Jason Collins courage is the real story. This here is just a part of my campaign to get Chris Broussard's pancake-batter face off the air once and for all. I suggest a forced permanent sabbatical and I hear Rob Parker is looking for a roommate.

"I told you Chris. You gotta watch your tongue, man."

Now on to the NBA Playoffs, where much like Broussard getting protected by ESPN while Parker was thrown under the bus - sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. In the waning moments of what was a Denver Nuggets blowout most of the way, Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson pulled his defense off with the Nuggets leading 107-100 and a two second differential in the shot clock. Denver returned the favor by letting the clock expire and handing the ball over to the Warriors. The result - a half-point cover by your brilliant NBA handicappers, Marco and Vinny.

Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Clippers could not handle the impressive post-play of the Memphis Grizzlies, and despite a couple of runs late in the game, trading baskets down the stretch ultimately led to a 103-93 loss, bringing our grand totals to:

POST-SEASON RECORD TO DATE: 23-12 ATS

CONFIDENCE EFFICIENCY RATING (CER): 50/75 or .67

TOP CONFIDENCE PICKS THROUGH DAY 11: 8-3 ATS

NEW YORK KNICKS (-8.5) over Boston Celtics: This series will end tonight. Carmello does not have another 10-35 shooting performance in him and the Boston Celtics used up their four-leaf clover on Sunday in the TD Garden when the outlasted the Knicks in OT and gave Pierce and Garnett a winning send-off. My favorite sound bite from that game provided by Celtic color commentator went like this:

"Paul Pierce step back three. GOT IT! Oh Doctor, somebody please get me a napkin so I can wipe my mouth."

Okay, but then he lost me by adding, "And go get the baby 'cuz she's cryin'"

Either way, the whole Celtics team will need a doctor to repair their injured pride after this Game 5 blowout at MSG. JR Smith will be back and the Knicks will win by 20. Confidence Rating: 3

INDIANA PACERS (-7) over Atlanta Hawks: Don't drink the Kool Aid. Indiana can't win in Atlanta and although the Hawks boast a respectable 23-18 ATS road record, they can't seem to keep it close in Indy. The Pacers are the better team and they will prevail in this series. Of that we have no doubt. Step one, a convincing home win tonight. We'd give up 10 if we had to. Confidence Rating: 2

Houston Rockets (+8.5) over OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER: No we're not predicting anything crazy like a Rockets victory, we're just saying that the last three games have been decided by an average of less than three points after Houston was humiliated by 29 in Game 1. The Rockets have legend Kevin McHale at the helm and he has obviously figured out the adjustments necessary to keep within striking distance of the Thunder. Couple that with Westbrook's absence, and if Houston can stay in this early, OKC will tighten up late much like Denver did last night. Confidence Rating: 1

Enjoy the action fellow gamblers,

Vinny and Marco
